What to expect

Located in the south of the city, Xochimilco is a must for people interested in nature and the historical importance of water canals for the pre Hispanic civilization. The name Xochimilco is a combination of the Nahuatl words xochitl and milli and means “where the flowers grow.” It is famous for its chinampas (floating gardens), and trajineras (flat bottomed boats) and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
